Harlequin Performing Arts Academy: meet the current musical theatre stars at Buccament Bay Resort
West End star John Barr and Musical Director Tim Davies are the currently coaching and performing for guests at Buccament Bay Resort until 16th November 2012. They will be followed by the West End performer Kurt Kansley and Musical Director Peter McCarthy, who will be on resort from 19th November to 8th February.
John trained at The Sylvia Young Theatre School. John made his West End debut at the age of 12 in Oliver at the Albery Theatre. Since then he has had a varied career appearing on stage, TV, cabaret, concerts and recordings. His theatre credits include: Charles Guiteau in Sondheim’s Assassins (The Union Theatre) – nominated for an Offie in Best Male Performance in 2010; Greta in Martin Sherman’s Bent (The Landor Theatre); Dr Thomas Parker in Batboy The Musical (The Shaftesbury Theatre); Ragtime (The Piccadilly Theatre); Hey, Mr Producer (Lyceum Theatre); Feuilly in Les Miserables (The Palace Theatre); Amos Hart in Chicago (The Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur); Shimbleshanks in Cats (Larnaca Municipal Amphitheatre, Cyprus). David in Company (The Derby Playhouse); Peter Pan (Perth Theatre); Tobias Ragg in Sondheim’s Sweeny Todd (The Watermill Theatre, Newbury).
Tim was born in Cardiff and studied Music at Kingston University, where he won the conducting prize, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. His theatre credits include Musical Director for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (UK Tour), Annie with Su Pollard (UK Tour), Cinderella and Aladdin with Ted Robbins (Charter Theatre, Preston) and Assistant Musical Director for The Sound of Music with Jason Donovan and Connie Fisher (UK Tour), CATS (UK, Italian and German Tours), Blood Brothers (UK Tour), Scrooge – The Musical with Shane Richie (UK Tour), The Boyfriend (Anniversary UK Tour) and Whistle Down the Wind (UK Tour).
If you love to sing and perform or you might were you not too shy, the Harlequin Performing Arts Academy is the ideal place to learn the skills required to perform on stage or simply to experience and enjoy the magic of musical theatre. Coached by stars and professionals of the West End and Broadway who have worked on hit musicals, guests are inspired and encouraged to develop their talent and have a great time in the process.
Individual and group classes are available for adults and children aged six and above, and when the sun sets, the tutors also put on a show for guests at the Waterfront Piazza. The Academy is overseen by Michael McCarthy and Stephen Hill, both of whom have extensive experience of working in the West End and Broadway
